Location and Geography
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a Middle Eastern federation of seven countries situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Southwest Asia on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. The seven countries, termed emirates, are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The seven independant emirates came together to for the UAE is 1971. Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the UAE and Dubai remain its commercial centre.
The UAE is rich in oil and, although it lacks other natural resources, it expects recent additional economic diversification to draw more financial and banking firms.
The UAE has a sub-tropical, arid climate with infrequent and irregular rainfall, amounting to less than 37 mms a year. Average daily max is 24 degrees (celsius) in January and 42 degrees in July.
